TAO's Concept

Self-reliance.
TAO is a healing center that helps people draw out their own natural self-healing power. Instead of solely relying on medicine and doctors, you should realize and use your own self-healing ability. TAO's self-learning center follows the concept that learners should not rely solely on their teachers, instead they should learn to become self-teachers and independent learners.

Think Globally, act Locally: A slogan of environmental world actions.
TAO is located in a rural mountainous area, but we aim to have a global view that includes the future. In the entranceway of the TAO classroom, there is an upside map that illustrates haw we want to look at the world from various different points of view. We believe that thinking with our own brain, moving with our own feet, and watching with our own eyes is important

Making life fore mount in a society that is based on monetaty principles.
Through thinking the most impotant thing is economics( it changes medicine, food and agriculture), many people believe money is paramount to life. I think this viewpoint is the cause of environmental destruction and war. Most people in developed countries only think about themselves and the present. This egotistical outlook is destroying the lives of people in 3rd world countries; we buy items using credit cards: the credit of our future offspring. We need to make a chenge from a society based on money, to a society based on life.

Life is interlinked.
Many people think that we are alive, but according to Buddhist philosophy, our life force is reliant on other people and the environment. All of our generations are linked together and we need to realize that we are at the head of this chain, and thet we influence the future links. We need to realize that we as individuals, are part of the world. When we reach an understanding of this philosophy we will become people who really think about other people.

From the smallest things.
When you think about the world's current situation, you know that there is racist conflict, religious conflict, and severe environmental problems. It is a world where the weak are victims of the strong. This may make one feel powerlless, however in my case, when I feel overwhelmed, I go to nature and from the suns rays and through conscious breathing, every body cell receives oxygen and negative feelings disappear. I think it is important to let your body and mind both become at ease. Don't restrict your passions.

We at TAO, think that we can start a revolution through our kitchens and cherish our life more than we cherish money. The kitchen connects medicine, food and agriculture. A worldwide renowned macrobiotic leader, Michio Kushi says "the kitchen a family's pharmacy, and base for revolution". Our kitchen tables are small but they are the origin of our futures health and peace.

3S's, Small, Slow, Simple.
Your steps are not very big, but if you shake hands with many people, this one step can start a chain of steps. Followers of LOHAS (lifestyle of health and sustainability) are increasing throughout the world little by little. Economist Dr Shoumahar wrote the book named 'Small is Beautiful'. I think that the keywords to our future are: small, slow and simple. Instead of a big cycle that damages the world and our own health, we should follow small local cycles. For example, globalization is a big cycle. Big companies take away work and income from the local community. Small cycles such as eating locally produced fresh vegetables do not deplete so much fuel and we can be assured of good quality because there is freshness we can see. Small cycles are the key to having a sustainable society.
